The ever sweet 16!

All that kept lingering in my head, during the school assembly, math class and when lunch breaks were just about mentioning this dialogue to my friends at school  “Unnum illa Mani, en kannu venum kettiyaame(transl. “Nothing Mani, did you ask for my eye?”) every damn time I get an opportunity!
That was 16 years ago, but still is fresh!
Yup! 16 years of Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu is a true fanboy sambavam for the true fanboys, even before it was cool!

2005 was when radio and cds were the only way one would know about a new upcoming movie. Back in the good ol’days when van used to pick me up, the journey to school was when I got to hear all the latest good Tamil film music. Thanks to the really good speakers in the van, and thanks to Perumal Anna for his good taste in music! ❤️

‘Twas this day when I’d first heard “Karka Karka” which was love at first instance! The beats kept ringing… followed by “Manjal veyil” ohhwww! We used to discuss during lunch breaks how just a simple dog-like-breath sound in the bg kept the song unique and new! Listen to it again if you’ve missed it.. or just listen to it again for nostalgia! 😇

I still don’t understand how they allowed me into theatres to watch at that age. But, clearly I remember how thrilled I was to see my man perform on the big screen!

Imagine the joy when the theatre erupted when DCP Raghavan kicked open the gate right after the title card! 🫠 oooff!

The top notch moments like:
  1. Raghavan walking crisp adorned in white - khaki and the director name sets in!
  2.  “I’ve never seen such a gory scene in my life” when the doc explains to DCP Raghavan,
  3. The aerial view of New York
  4. Raghavan and Anderson walking all suited up to climb the private jet at the end of the Manjal veyil song
  5. When Anderson confronts Raghavan saying this can’t be done here, but Raghavan hits him back with “We do this back there, we call it the Raghavan instinct”
  6. When Amudhan calls out “Ilaaaa”
  7. The climax fight and Raghavan runs to the spot shouting “Aradhana” in the classic melancholic voice
I could go on! I’m already drooling while I remember and cherish these!

Hail GVM!
Long live Harris!
Kudos to Ravi!
Take a bow Thamarai!

To more years of cherishing the fan boy sambavam!
Happy 16 years of Vettaiyadu Vilaiyaadu!

Until next time,
Ba bye,
