Being the first in your family is already too much pressure because you need to be that guy who sets a ‘good’ example to your siblings, or you end up being that guy who gets pointed out as “or you’ll become someone like him”.
Imagine being the first one, not only at home, but to the entire family, both paternal and maternal sides - high expectations becoming the lab rat to everyone’s interests!
But, there’s another side of the coin which can’t be missed, there surely are some perks of being the eldest. Here we go:
1. Always first preference:
What’s more fun when your granny starts to recall all the moments: the first word I spoke, how I used to draw, sketch, eat, sleep, bathe, while all the younger and latest kids are left behind just hearing my tales! 🕺
2. Festive season = more gifts:
When you’re about to leave granny’s place, after festivals, guess who gets more delicious food packed and on top of that some extra money as gifts? Lè me, the eldest, yo!
3. Be with the smallest and the eldest:
Once you’re the first in the family, you surely become the closest to both the extreme age groups! You know all of them for the longest compared to your gen peers!
You get to discuss politics and world related stuff with the middle aged, while sharing hot tea and snacks with the eldest and playing cricket with the tots! You get to be everything- the Kamal Hassan of your home!
4. Never be forgotten:
As the eldest, you're already the centre of focus, imagine when it’s your birthday, get ready for the wishes to pour in! 💕
Sans the pressure, looking up to or looking down at by the others, whatever it is,
you won't be ignored!
In short, being the eldest comes with more food, more paisa, more memories, but above all more responsibility!
P.s: Be neither the boomer nor the boss!
To all the elder peeps in your fam,
Enjoy being one!
Until next time, ba bye!
