Today was almost a disaster. In an effort to get outside for my exercise, bad luck set me way back on time. I had to regroup and not let the intention of perfectionism creep in. Today was far from perfect, but it was still a good day. Here's the recap.
Bible Reading Micah 6 - more judgment.
Workouts I got in about 15 minutes of mountain biking at a trail I've been trying to do for a while now. Just like the last time I was there, though, I ended up hiking my bike back to the trail head, this time with a broken derailleur. Such is the life of trail riding. There's always the risk for equipment to be compromised. Between the riding and the hiking I accumulated about 30 minutes of outdoor activity.
Later in the evening, already time crunched, I squeezed in 30 minutes of push ups and pull-ups and had to call it a day on my exercise. I was missing 30 minutes of activity. Part of me wants this to be perfect, but perfection is not what this is about for me. Nor is this just about doing something hard for the sake of hard. It's about consistent discipline. So I'm not going to sweat it, and I'm going to keep moving forward.
Reading I started reading rule 5 of Jordan Peterson's 12 Rules for Life. The rule is to not let your children behave in a way that caused you to dislike them. As a parent of 4 such little beings, this is especially intriguing. I certainly don't want to resent my children, but untrained children will certainly stir up resentment. I know this, because children and multiple times throughout their adolescents will misbehave, and if this misbehavior persists for too long it does cause some resentment in me. That's why I have to consciously and very intentionally instruct and socialize them in proper ways. I'm looking forward to more insight from this chapter.
Husband and Father are my two favorite titles. I have 4 wonderful children and a beautiful wife. Everything else I do in life is a means to building my family. I'm also a software engineer with a focus on operating web apps on AWS. All the rest of my free time is mainly spent riding bicycles on roads and trails.
