Only 20 days left. I'm starting to feel really established in these habits, and while I don't always feel excited to stick to them, I do appreciate the order they bring. I've been thinking about a few things that I'll do to scale things back to a more sustainable way of living.
Regarding alcohol I really want to set a strict limit of no more than 2 drinks in a night and no more than 4 drinks in a week. I recently listened to Andrew Huberman's podcast on the negative affects of alcohol on the body, and it's quite mind blowing how freely we imbibe this toxin without giving it much consideration.
Regarding diet and water, I really just want to keep doing what I'm doing. It's working really well and doesn't feel like a lot of sacrifice. Essentially it's just mostly whole foods and only enough carbs to fuel my exercise. I want to continue to avoid things like chips, candy and sweets as well as liquid calories like juice and milk. Of course I will allow myself the occasional cheat here and there in the future, probably mostly around social occasions. For water I probably won't obsess about a full gallon, but will definitely do at least half my body weight in ounces (currently about 92 oz.)
Regarding reading, I want to continue reading something uplifting every day. It just won't necessarily be 10 pages. It will be whatever time and interest allows for. It might also include reading fiction sometimes too.
Regarding exercise, I'd like to keep doing some form of intentional exercise everyday, I just won't make myself have to do 90 minutes. I'm on the fence a little about continuing to make myself go outside everyday.
That's kind of what I'm thinking. We'll see how the next 20 days go as I continue to learn. Here's the recap for today.
Bible Reading I read Habakkuk 2. While the previous prophets were quite hard to read, I am enjoying the back and forth nature of this book. Hearing the cries out to God and the responses back from God are really interesting.
Workouts
It was warm again today with some sunshine. I got in a nice walk, though it was quite windy. Later in the afternoon I did a 30 minute chest workout using dumbbells.
Reading I continued Rule 8 about seeking meaning over expediency. Peterson really went heavy in the biblical narrative in this chapter. He touched a lot on Cain and Abel and then on Christ and Satan and the dichotomous archetypes that each of these characters represent. He explains how Abel is representative of Good, but not perfect. Cain is representative of evil, but not completely. Christ is the perfect good that atones for all evil, and Satan is completely devoid of good, seeking only what is expedient. Peterson uses these archetypes to demonstrate how seeking meaning and delaying gratification can be very useful in setting up not only personal gain, but societal gain.
Diet Breakfast: Oatmeal with a bit of brown sugar Lunch: chicken strips and an apple Dinner: bbq grilled chicken with corn and broccoli. With some sourdough bread. Snacks: a couple of cheese sticks and sunflower seeds.
Husband and Father are my two favorite titles. I have 4 wonderful children and a beautiful wife. Everything else I do in life is a means to building my family. I'm also a software engineer with a focus on operating web apps on AWS. All the rest of my free time is mainly spent riding bicycles on roads and trails.
