Okay I put this off for a while, so this is a long one. Over halfway woohoo!
May 8th: Apur Sansar (1959)
I had no idea this was the third of a trilogy, WHOOPS. I’ll have to go back and watch the first two at some point. Very moving story about how complicated life can be. 6/10
May 9th: Sinners (2025)
A very thrilling film with beautiful set design and themes. Plot fell apart at the very end for "believability" but it's also a vampire film so who cares. Fun watch. 7/10
May 10th: Psycho (1960)
Tbh this is not where I thought this film was gonna go. I didn't know the plot except for the existence of the shower scene. Now I get why Hitchcock is held to such high regard because the writing in this film had me on edge. 8/10
May 11th: Late Spring (1949)
Just let the girl live her life. A poignant piece about how societal expectations damage people. My heart goes out to Noriko. 7/10
May 12th: A Short Film About Love (1988)
This movie is basically the opposite of the title. It demonstrates everything that isn't love and brings the audience along for the consequences. Required watch for incels. 6/10
May 13th: Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
Wild title for a wild film. Comedic observations of tensions during the cold war. Usually it's hard for older films to make me laugh but this one got me a few times. 7/10
May 14th: Conclave (2024)
I should have watched this sooner (well I say that about a lot of films). Ralph and the rest of the cast are phenomenal. The whole runtime was tense enough to hear a pin drop. 8/10
May 15th: Le Trou (1960)
This movie felt so physical. The characters were deliberate and grounded. I read after watching that most of the main cast weren't professional actors and it shows in the best way. Best French 1960's crime film I've ever seen. 8/10
May 16th: Friendship (2024)
If you like "I think you should leave" then you should watch this film. Tim is hilarious but also makes me want to run very very far away. This is now my favorite film where Paul Rudd works on the news. 8/10
