What a dramatic title! A little over top perhaps. I don't care though, it was the first title that came to mind when I thought of putting a name to my thoughts today. I recently heard back from 37 Signals. They would not be considering me for a position as their new Rails Programmer. This was not what I was hoping to hear. Yet, I will use it as fuel to prepare myself for the next time they open a position.
I had a feeling that I wouldn't make the cut. I have no professional Rails experience. I wasn't going to let that stand in the way though. Ever since that job listing ticked into my Imbox, I have been studying Rails profusely. I didn't want to look like a fool if I got through. Plus, I really want to join 37 Signals.
The old me would might say, "oh well, better luck next time". The new me, on the other hand, says: "Alright, we have work to do". It feels great to see this as a new beginning. In fact, I am already looking forward to creating a new cover letter. Updating my CV. Applying, the next time that job listing rolls in. The longer it takes, the more prepared I will be.
