Lately I've been playing around with future predictions of what happens in a few years from now, when we are all leveraging AI to work for us. Including things like writing. We are already getting used to AI handling daily tasks, so prose will also be a big part of this soon.
It seems to me that some people are afraid that we will all become "dumber" as a result. While I think that this could be the fate of some, I don't think it is all that likely that we all degenerate.
Not many decades ago, we all started becoming overweight because we had mastered a way of getting food on the table without physical labour. Ok, not everyone become slobs and cubicle goblins, but you get the idea.
Nowadays we run deliberately in our spare time. A notion most people would have thought to be ridiculous a century ago. We run to stay in shape. To keep our bodies and our minds strong.
I think we will find our way through AI as well. If AI takes away our need to write and think in our jobs, we will find a way to develop those abilities on our own. Maybe we will have even more time on our hands. Giving us time for a running as well as writing.
