I have been considering writing more about fatherhood. I don't see a lot of writing about it. There definitely is, and some of what I have read has been really good. I think I have steered a little clear of it though. If I were to write about it, I want to reach some conclusions on my own. I don't want be influenced in the beginning or I fear it wont be original.
The reason I wish to write about parenthood, but seen through the eyes of the father is because it is a subject that is near and dear to me. I take great pride in being a dad for my two girls. I think I am pretty good at it too. This combined with my analytical thinking and Christina's ability to get me to talk and open up once in a while could make for some pretty good insights.
Whether or not people will find what I have to say interesting is a whole different question. I think if I were to give it a shot, it would be something I wrote on Substack. This way I already have access to an audience, and I don't necessarily need to work on that. I mean, if what I do is good, then it should grow with time since Substack gives me exposure.
I think I could put together a good piece maybe once a month. And maybe that would be a good starting off point. A goal which is somewhat achievable without having to make intense stretches. Especially considering that I am a novice writer.
Maybe that is what I'll do. The first format that comes to mind would be a monthly post. Even though I think monthly posts can be somewhat repetitive, it is a good way for me keep some sort of accountability to myself. My problem with doing things like weekly or monthly posts in the past is that I always seem to rush them. The fact that you are summing up a month, or giving your thoughts on the week gone by, dictates that a large chunk of work must be done at the end.
I will employ a different strategy. I will choose a subject at the beginning of the month, and try to explore it during the month. That means I can start writing about it from day one. If I could combine the subject with a seasonal event or a current event, sure why not. But it cannot be a prerequisite or I will end up writing about something that I do not want to write about.
Hmmms, let us use the next 24 hours to find a subject for November. I think my best bet is not to try and make some sort of 'introduction' or 'primer'. I will imagine that I have done this for 10 years, and this is just my post number, uhm... let's see.. 10 x 12 = 120. Yea, this is just my 121st post. Business as usual.
