It often happens that people who have to say the most are talking the least. Which makes their every public appearance valuable. Especially, if that is a prolonged conversation with another smart and funny human being. That is what I love about the keynotes of Linus Torvalds at the yearly Open Source Summit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPvRIWXNgaM.
I think as a society we miss such people as Linus being in charge. Smart, capable, laser focused, funny and well recognized. Undoubtedly, one of the most influential people in the history of IT. Yet, humble. Yeah, I know, it is a bit controversial stretch to say "humble" about Linus. And he was not an angel on many occasions along the way, for sure. But every time an initial letter about him working on Linux pops up somewhere in the news it reminds me that a lot of the greatness comes from a small source, from grind and from fun. That is “just a hobby” and it “won’t be big and professional”, huh? Yep, it’ll just change the world. For real.
