Potential Surrounds us...
I came across a quote today that got me thinking...
"If your experiments succeed in proving the hypothesis, you have made a measurement; if they fail to prove the hypothesis, you have made a discovery." - Enrico Fermi
If you have an idea of how to do something and why; coupled with what to expect when you do it
...Then by testing you get to see if you was accurate or not...
And, more often than not, you will miss the target to a lesser or larger degree.
The quality of understanding will provide layers of nuance available...
...As a result 'potentially' uncovering some quality ignorance...
Why potentially?
Because al this can be missed due to a wide range of dodgy assumptions...
'There's nothing to test'
'Near enough is good enough.'
'I'm not good enough.'
'Doesn't work even though I did it as it should.'
'It can't be done.'
Insert whatever assumption you can think of that closes the doors of opportunity.
i guess also that a lot of people miss the target and don't persevere with things is that maybe the idea wasn't good enough in the first place...?
In other words nothing worth even aiming at.
It makes sense if you think about it... Why would you really pursue something if you didn't see it as crucial to begin with...?
Makes me think that to some extent you have to care about being right enough to find the joy in being wrong...
And in seeking where we may be wrong we tend to get clearer about what is right... Right?
