making space for important stuff

In his book Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals, Oliver Burkeman presents a sobering reality when he writes, “the problem with trying to make time for everything that feels important — or just enough for what feels important — is that you definitely never will.”

Meaning: trying to Do It All is an impossible proposition.

In reality, life is short enough such that you have to say yes to a few important things and no to a lot of other important things.

It may not be the reality we wish for, but it’s a manageable one that will preserve your sanity and gives you adequate space to savor the things you choose to do without that nagging burden that comes from believing you’re not doing enough.
