Life isn't black and white; we live in the gray.
Not too long ago, I was lamenting my lack of physical flexibility to my trainer: I wish this... I want that... If I could only do this... If I could only do that...
He was a football player through college and cast a warning, "If your body is too rigid, you can't absorb a hit, and you can get hurt. However, your joints don't have support if you're too flexible, and you can get hurt."
Focus in one area requires focus in another.
Two ways to approach it:
- Work toward balance
- Work against imbalance
They appear to be the same, but their actions may be different. I find that "balance" isn't a clear enough target, and my actions are less direct. In comparison, an imbalance is much easier to determine, and the areas I'm falling short on are more obvious.
Wheel of Life (WOL) is a great tool to assess imbalance. I do a WOL assessment whenever I feel like things are too crooked. It identifies what areas of my life I need to invest more time into to create a balanced life.
