Waiting for anything exciting is not easy. Even when success is guaranteed, it’s so hard to be patient.
On the one hand, waiting is boring. What am I going to do in the meantime? Why can’t waiting be more exciting and engaging?
I recognize that patience is a sign of progress, but I always feel like those two are in opposition. How am I making progress if I’m waiting?
The connection is time spent; the only resource we can’t renew. So, why waste it?! (I think.)
What if I’m not wasting it? Maybe time spent in rest/reflection/wait is all worth it. Perhaps life is lived between achievements.
My kids remind me of this daily. They have strong opinions - there’s no doubt. They appear to have no patience, but when they do, they fill it with play, fun, creativity, etc. they don’t wait to live.
Maybe patience is a cue that life is waiting for me/you: that now is the time to enjoy the time we can’t get back: that nothing is more important than right now.
So, enjoy it! Be patient.
