In the early 1900s, Muizenberg’s beach and surf attracted prominent literary figures such as Rudyard Kipling, Agatha Christie, and George Bernard Shaw. While I found no evidence that Kipling ever tried surfing, Christie and Shaw certainly did. Christie, who became an avid surfer, learned to ride the waves at Muizenberg in 1922 while on a worldwide tour. A decade later, 75-year-old Shaw dropped by Muizenberg to learn the sport.
