It’s been a while since I sat down for a writing session [I just looked back at the journal and it's been a month. Lesson - time passes really quickly!]
It’s 8:43 on Monday 17th May, and I’m ready to get back into it.

It’s 8:43 on Monday 17th May, and I’m ready to get back into it.
The past three or four weeks have been a combination of work and being a parent:
- There was the spring vacation
- Our youngest, Luna-Rose, was sick and we looked after her at home for a week, and
- Our parents were unavailable for childcare.
So, all of that plus a busy period at work meant this project got put to the side until I was in the right place to pick it back up again. That’s life.
I’ve actually taken it quite well. I’m clear more than ever about what’s important, and it all can’t be important all at the same time. I knew that I’d pick this up easily when the conditions were right to do so.
And here I am. Ready to set my environment for deep work, and get back to writing this book.
Where will I start? I’m not sure. I’m just going to start somewhere and not overthink it.
Let’s state some rules as a reminder:
- Switch off the internet. DO NOT GO ON THE INTERNET!
- Leave your iPhone outside of your office.
- Get some snacks - almonds, banana, apple.
- Get a few glasses of water and a coffee.
- Index cards at my side for unrelated thoughts and notes .
- Set my timer for 90 mins (quick break) then another 90 mins after wards.
- Go directly out for a walk after writing.
- Remember - it’s all about attention: giving your attention to just one thing for an extended period of time.
- Make sure your playlist is downloaded and headphones are charged.
Let's get to it!
