From Dial-Up to Downloads: Why Our Council's 'Ezine' Needs a 2024 Makeover

Ah, the 'ezine'—a term that instantly transports us to a time when dial-up connections serenaded us, and Y2K was the impending doom we all feared. But wait, what's this? Our local council (Causeway Coast & Glens ) is still clinging to this relic of the past, using it to describe their newsletter in the year 2024!

Let's take a trip down memory lane. The '90s were simpler: Tamagotchis were our constant companions, and our biggest fashion dilemma was choosing between flannel and denim. The digital frontier was emerging, and the term 'ezine'—short for electronic magazine—was cutting-edge, encapsulating the spirit of innovation. Fast-forward a couple of decades, and here we are, chuckling at the quaintness of it all.

In today's world, digital communication has evolved at lightning speed. We're now in the era of podcasts, vlogs, and live streams. Information reaches us at the speed of light, often via platforms that didn't even exist when the term 'ezine' was coined. Calling a newsletter an 'ezine' today is a bit like faxing a TikTok—adorably retro but not quite in tune with the times.

So, dear council, we appreciate the nod to nostalgia, but perhaps it's time for a rebrand. How about 'digital digest,' 'info blast,' or just plain 'newsletter'? These alternatives sound fresh and reflect the streamlined, efficient communication we expect in this fast-paced era.

Let's embrace the present and leave the 'ezine' to the annals of digital history.

After all, even Tamagotchis got a reboot!
