Damn near perfect film and exemplary example of what a mockumentary can be. Still holds up after ~130 dog years. More mainstream than my personal fav Waiting for Guffman and more accessible than Spinal Tap, it stands at the peak of Christopher Guest’s dry and subtle creative explosion and knock-out collaborations with such alumni of SCTV, SNL, and the art of improv sketch. Such foolishness knows no bounds in this microcosm, and while there’s no direct link, Triumph doggy-paddled so these pups could fetch. Features the work of Weimaraner Beatrice (Take Me Dancing), Norwich terrier Winky (Bryllo), bloodhound Hubert (Stand By Me), standard poodle Rhapsody in White aka Butch (Dezi Duz It With Pizaz aka Peach), and Shih Tzu Miss Agnes (Classic). And the actors are pretty great too. RIP Catherine O’Hara, Fred Willard, Don S. Davis, and Patrick Cranshaw. 🎭
