Several factors chipped in to buy me that colorful bouquet of burnout symptoms in late 2022 and my way-too-slow recuperation in 2023: severe overwork; being grounded (in Germany) for years during the pandemic; a common cold from hell and a successive Corona infection; and two lengthy disruptions of my training regime courtesy of arm/shoulder and knee surgery. None of this was conducive to keeping my gym contract alive, so I returned to doing exercises at home for the first time since 2004. I started out with resistance bands for physiotherapy exercises, upgrading resistance and exercises step by step. But now that I’m back at my baseline, it’s time to pick some professional equipment. Because, somewhat surprisingly after so many years at the gym, I came to realize that I like doing workouts at home. I can do split training every day after a run without losing tons of time for commuting, and whatever piece of equipment I want to use it’s never occupied by someone else! Which had become more and more annoying over the years, even up to the point where I shortened my warm-up routine when a particular device miraculously wasn’t in use, which is a bad thing to do. Updates pending on what I’ll be upgrading to, stay tuned!
Last week, I wrote two posts with brief reviews for Glazer’s The Zone of Interest and Wei’s 河边的错误/Mistake(s) by the River (aka Only the River Flows) at my primary blog between drafts. On Flickr, I uploaded three new Singapore albums with images from our great Shōnan Jinja jungle adventure, Bishan, and New Bridge Centre, plus some new shots for my Singapore and Düsseldorf non-album buckets. Finally, there are several fresh posts at my Instagram account betweendrafts and my daily vintage travel-squaries at Pixelfed.
For the Sunday Funnies, here’s the 2020 Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot commercial, on the occasion of Toriyama Akira’s recent passing. It’s very funny and very nostalgic, but the pseudo-vintage parts also make clear how viciously exclusive—in the social sense—video gaming had been back in the days. And, as a bonus, here’s some cat content on how to get cats to help with your housekeeping duties.
Enjoy!
