The world’s strongest

The 2020 SBD World’s Strongest Man was held in Miami, Florida, without a crowd. Competitors didn’t have their friends and family around them. There was no roar of an audience. The low-level applause came from sponsors and organisers but it wasn’t the same.

Weights feel lighter with hype. Lifting that last atlas stone to a soundtrack of silence is a different experience to being cheered on by thousands.

Winning the 2020 World’s Strongest Man required a stronger mind. One that could see past excited fans and concentrate harder on its own game. A winner that could optimise their own mindset, give their own pep talks and create everything they needed to perform from within.

When no one is watching, are you still the best? When you’re not being encouraged, do you quit? If not for the fans, who do you do it for?
