Hey World, I'm starting a newsletter!

Hey World, my name is Jamie Baxter. I am 33 years old, and I live in Westfield, Indiana with my wife Colleen of five years, and my oldest son Joseph, daughter Genevieve, and newborn son William. Our baby Jamie looks down on us from heaven.

I am the founder and CEO of Exodus, and we’re the makers of Exodus 90. I’ve been working at this now for nine years, which is hard to believe as I write it out.

For a while now, I have considered writing an open newsletter like this as a public log of my journey as a Catholic founder. If this becomes what I have in mind, it won’t feel bloggy but human. An every-so-often note from a friend on the other side, who is filled with all the same humanities as those who may stumble into it by providence in the future.

I got away from writing and teaching when I started building Exodus. I miss them like old friends, and I want to integrate building, writing, and teaching all together as I move forward. I won’t write on a schedule, but when I have something to say. Some will be long, but most will be short. I’ll write about the things I find myself thinking about, what I’m making at work, and the ups and downs of startup ministry life. I promise to say one thing and then to change my mind later on based on new experience.

A couple of inspirations for the newsletter:

Our Father has blessed us in ways beyond my imaginings, and I want to simply bear witness to his gentleness, faithfulness, and love.

Exodus men, who I am privileged to serve each day, this will be a look behind the scenes of what goes into making it happen day by day, week by week, year by year. And I welcome your thoughts in shaping our future.

One of the most humbling parts of the journey has been that other founders will often reach out with the questions they’re asking for their own companies. It’s made me want to share out the things that I find myself repeating and that seem to resonate.

And the last inspiration is the example of Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson, the founders and owners of 37Signals. They build in public, and it’s blessed me profoundly over the years. By taking what’s been helpful to me from their journey, and by following God’s invitation and carving my own path with grace, I am where I am today.

I’m choosing to publish this blog through Hey.com. Hey has made email peaceful for me over the past few years, and so I’m excited to try out the blog now too. You can subscribe with an email address at the bottom of each post, and when I write, you will get the post in an email to read when you’re ready. There are no comment sections. If you want to connect, just reply by email and I’ll respond when I can. In my view, this keeps the conversations human, one to one, and without the performance dynamics of public comment sections. Or you can follow the webpage link here: https://world.hey.com/jpb.

Thanks for reading, let’s see where this goes, and hopefully it’s helpful! ✌️

Holy Thursday,
Peace of Jesus Christ,
Jamie
