I've been working on a book and I'm on a big career section- Katrina
A few nuggets.
This is first staging ground for Team Bravo.
Team Alpha was the forward scout and sales team. A small tactical team that was self contained and were planned to inch and creep closer and closer to spot locations and secure areas.
Team Bravo was the heavy Ops Equipped.
It was in all 125 team members in a large variety of assets.
Small vehicles, pickups hauling campers and equipment trailers, box trucks, 53'ers, flatbeds with large equipment, fuel tanker, water tanker, reefer truck and vans (for crews). We even had a school bus (top speed 52).
We converged on this airfield. It had a section that was La National guard. We had a few connections.
We got there a few days before presumed impact. Like Aug 25th.
Remember the storm was squirrly. Florida was the original target.
Team delta had posted in southern Ga. They would later come in on the east side because I-10 was washed out across.
I was one of the commanders for Bravo.
Beyond all the communications, we had to continue getting prepped.
We had a lot of "contract" teams, so training on paperwork, communications, hierarchy and rules were occurring.
We also had med units coming in to make sure we had fit testing for those that didn't.
We had Hepatitis shots and tetanus shots set up, checking equipment, etc.
Keeping people busy while in standby mode, anxious, stressed and unsure of what/ where required alot of patience.
We had cookouts, footballs, frisbees and some other things.
I had no clue I was signing up for all of this when I broke in but those experiences not only gave me incredible experiences, training, and exposure, but allowed me to work beside many that I still consider the best in the industry.
No matter how much you go through, you never know it all.
And the small things still perplex you.
Miss those days but the schedule was grueling.
Cheers,
Klark
