In Ali Abdaal's' Part-Time YouTuber Academy, he teaches three tactics to ensure creators always have content ideas.
1) Eureka Moments
These are the ‘random’ moments when new ideas strike.
Usually these occur in the shower, while driving, or doing random activities that have nothing to do with our work.
Often times these can be our best ideas. It's important to have a capture system in place with minimal friction to quickly jot down these thoughts so we remember them.
2) The Birdsong Technique
When casually browsing social media, we must keep an eye open for potential content ideas.
This is a skill that takes practice. It also requires a mindset shift. We are no longer browsing social media with the lens of a consumer, but rather with the lens of a Content Creator.
Similar to eureka moments, we must have a frictionless capture system to easily throw ideas into a database for us to reflect on later.
3) Coal Mining
Some resources on the internet are more valuable than others.
When we find a blog, YouTube channel, or any resource that is directly relevant to the content we produce, we should save it as a coal mine.
Coal mines are places we can go to dig for potential content ideas. If we are running low on our own ideas, we can turn to our coal mines to dig for ideas that can be remixed or turned into something new.
As Ali always says, there is no such thing as original ideas, only unique messengers. Using these techniques will ensure a lifetime supply of content.
Best,
Maneetpaul Singh
