The Compounding Effect of Consistency

Dear Friend & Fellow Creator,

Most people don't understand what consistency means.

When we hear about consistency, we think about repeating the same action over and over again until we master it. But progress via consistency isn't linear. There won't be a magical moment where all of a sudden your consistency has "paid off".

Consistency has a compound effect.

Let's say somebody is trying to lose weight. They decide to make only one simple change of no longer eating candy or dessert after dinner. Saving about 125 calories per day.

A few weeks go by and there is no noticeable change.

A few months go by and there is no noticeable change.

A full year goes by and there is still no noticeable change.

But if they stick with this for a couple of years, the compound effect of consistency starts to show. After 31 months, those 125 calories a day add up to 117,500 calories. Divided by 3,500 calories per pound and that's 33.5 pounds of weight that was avoided compared to someone who kept eating unhealthy.

When starting out, putting in the work is difficult and the results we see are minimal.

But the longer we stick with it, the outputs of our work start to become massive, while the effort required becomes minimal.

For me, I'm currently facing this challenge with my weekly emails. The amount of effort that goes into writing them is disproportional to the results I'm seeing.

But I trust in the power of compounding.

Minimal results will compound into massive wins.

Best,

PS: This post was inspired by a book I recently read called The Compound Effect. It has a ton of examples and insight on the topic of consistency if you're interested.
