My lovely wife and I traveled recently to Mexico to Cabo St. Lucas, where there is a resort called Villa Palmas (or similar) we had a generally lovely time, with a couple of distinct exceptions. Both involve my allergies; one is to dust mites and one is to Aspartame, which somehow was placed into the dessert (we speculate) on our last day there ... the dust mite allergy makes my sinus infection go off in Technicolor, which is bad enough. But the other allergy or sensitivity which I recently discovered when a well-meaning friend got me cough drops with this ingredient, which causes me immediate and rather explosive diarrhea.

This happened on our trip back ... in the (generally lovely and well-run Phoenix airport). I felt something thinking I had just passed gas, but no...  i will spare everyone the details but it took me 4 trips to the bathroom to get completely cleaned up and I misplaced (or lost) my nice neck pillow in the process.

This was an annoying end to a  lovely anniversary trip. The Americans and Mexicans we met were unfailingly polite and some were hilarious.

So if you decide to be careful to discuss food sensitivities and allergies with food servers; and enjoy!
