Utopia for Realists

This is the best nonfiction book I have read in years.

It is one of those "everything you thought you knew was wrong" books:

(1) just giving money directly to everyone in the US is cheaper than the current bunch of insurance and welfare agencies who have all sorts of enforcement mechanisms to keep the poor people from gaming the system.

(2) Relatively open borders are also a big win for the US: this give us the benefit of everyone in Mexico and Canada ... a more modern version of the old NAFTA bill .... the difference being that everyone from Mexico and Canada who wants to apply and live in the US will have to submit to biometric authentication. We should have technology to scan through all transportation methods looking for humans and having security people nearby to bounce anyone who doesn't have authentication or the interest in getting it.

This will allow us to give everyone in the US a monetary grant for a living wage, whether they work or not.

We are a rich enough society to make this happen ... we can do this with current resources as soon as we turn off the insurance and welfare spigots.
