When in doubt, show up.

December 5, 2024

I found out a friend passed away right before Thanksgiving.

Kelly fought cancer for over two years - pretty remarkable actually. So while her passing wasn’t a surprise, it was still very hard to hear, and it’s still hard to think about.

I found myself at a loss for what to do, and how to help Boaz and his family. What could someone possibly do in this situation? And what I realized is the best thing I could do, and what Boaz needs from me more than anything else is just to show up, and continue to show up for him.

This started with flying out to LA and being there for the funeral. This was me meeting him for lunch and just spending a couple of hours talking about nothing until he was ready to talk about Kelly. This is me now just randomly texting and calling to say, “I’m thinking about you.”

When in doubt, show up. And some more. And keep showing up.
It seems small, but showing up is a huge gift we can give both in times of joy and times of sadness.

P.S. Conrad the funeral service was on the morning of your birthday. Another strange lesson in life was the sadness and somberness of the morning, followed immediately with the joy and excitement of you turning 8.
