A reflection on exhaustion and depletion.
You may still be meeting responsibilities and getting through the day, yet everyday life feels more effortful than it once did. Rest no longer restores in the way it used to, and what was once manageable can start to feel heavy, even when little appears to have changed on the surface. You may be experiencing burnout.
For many people, burnout is not only about doing too much, but about carrying too much for too long. Responsibility, expectation, and emotional labour can accumulate without enough space to pause or step back. Over time, this can leave you feeling depleted, disconnected, or emotionally flat.
Burnout can narrow experience. Curiosity fades, patience thins, and a persistent tiredness sets in that goes beyond physical fatigue. These are not personal failures, but signs that something has been stretched beyond what it can sustain.
Therapy can offer a space to slow down and make sense of burnout without rushing toward solutions. It allows room to notice what has been asked of you, what you have been holding, and what may need care or attention now.
Burning out is not a sign that you have failed. Often, it reflects endurance taken beyond its limits. Paying attention to it can be the beginning of a kinder and more honest relationship with yourself.
You may find yourself noticing what feels depleted, and what might need attention or care now.
