🍸 Arbikie - Drink cocktails, help save the planet?

The Scottish Distillery Making Climate Positive Gin and Vodka with Peas

I can't quite get my head around products that are manufactured and at the same time, are climate positive, but if you know me and my British roots, you won't be surprised why this company caught my attention.

I'd love to know how they end up with a carbon footprint of -1.54kg (Gin) and -1.53kg (Vodka) of CO2e per 700ml bottle. I hope they'll let me interview them for the podcast some day, but for now, here's what I can tell you...

Scottish distillery Arbikie is doing things differently, with a focus on sustainability and climate positivity. Their climate-positive gin and vodka are made using peas, which not only gives them a unique taste but also helps to reduce their overall carbon footprint.

Founded in 2013 by brothers Iain, David, and John Stirling, Arbikie is a family-run business that prides itself on its sustainable approach to distilling. The distillery is located on a farm in Angus, Scotland, and is powered by renewable energy. The Stirling family has been farming in the area for over four centuries, and they are passionate about preserving the land for future generations.

The name Nàdar is, by the way, the Gaelic word for nature, which makes perfect sense.

Arbikie's climate-positive gin and vodka are made using a unique process that uses peas as a key ingredient. Peas are a natural source of nitrogen, which means that they can be used to fertilize the soil instead of relying on synthetic fertilizers. This helps to reduce the carbon footprint of the distillery and also supports the local agricultural community. The use of peas also gives the spirits a unique and delicious taste that sets them apart from other gins and vodkas on the market.

By the way - I'm creating the book and podcast series for people who want their small or medium business to make more profit and better impact. So if you want more of this, please sign up for more at https://sixtyminutestoimpact.xyz

In addition to their focus on sustainability, Arbikie is also committed to supporting local communities. They work closely with local farmers to source their ingredients, and they have a program to support small-scale growers in the area. They also partner with local charities to give back to the community and support causes that are important to them.

Arbikie's commitment to sustainability and community has earned them a loyal following of customers who appreciate their unique approach to distilling. I haven't tasted either yet, but if you're in the UK and have, please let me know what you thought about it?
