#2 Making a Day

Every time you interact with someone (especially random strangers), you have an opportunity to make their day. It’s really quite a powerful thing when you think about it.

If you’re a barista, you can shape messages via latte art (I’ve been on the receiving end - simply wonderful!) and if you’re a customer, you can share why you like them, the cafe, the coffee.

Instead of the awkward lift silence (the dreaded, banal elevator silence), why not be that quirky character who makes conversation?

“What’s on your floor?”
“Ah, Accounting.”
“Oh cool, how long have you worked there?”
“I’m just visiting today.”
“Wonderful, well … have a great day!”
“…Okay, bye!”

Sure, sometimes these events can be classed as unusual interactions and it may even be a bit awkward sometimes - but you’ll get a smile, a giggle, a slight recoiling of the head as someone processes you’re doing something ‘out of the norm’.

Secretly inside, we are all wanting someone to notice us, to love us, to tell us that we are, in that moment, being of service - that our contribution matters. I think so, anyway.

How could you make someone’s day today?
