It's amazing to hear people's stories, absolutely, but I find listening to podcasts to be a fantastic tool for detailed research.
From one person's interviews and discussions across multiple podcasts, you can really piece together facts about how someone achieved a certain thing, what the process was and what the nitty-gritty logistics were. The successes, the failures, the lessons learned.
Often the real work in any project is around the nitty-gritty, the detail. Everything else you can Google - but custom, anecdotal and highly specific recollections of experiences are really useful.
And that's why I love podcasts :).
