Being creative in showing appreciation

It’s always tempting to wait for birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, or other special occasions to let friends and family know that we love and appreciate them.

Most gift-giving and note writing is saved for those predictable moments in any given year.

Which is fine! I’m not suggesting we stop using these moments to show our love for the people who mean a lot to us.

But lovely as letting loved ones know how special they are on those memorable days, we all appreciate and remember those times when we get surprised, out-of-the-blue, by a gift or a few words of affirmation.

These unexpected moments stand out all the more because they can’t be predicted. There’s no obligation to say what is said, or give what is given. Saying or giving anything at all means it was meant.

We all like to feel special, appreciated, and loved. More than that, we need to know there are key people in our lives thinking about us, remembering us, noticing us.

And we each have it within our power to do that for the people around us. We don’t have to wait for a memorable day to come around to let someone know that we care, we’re thinking about them, and that they matter.

Who could we express our appreciation to today?
