Easy has a cost

James Clear’s latest newsletter delivers a good reminder that there’s a cost to always taking the path of least resistance:

Strangely, life gets harder when you try to make it easy.

Exercising might be hard, but never moving makes life harder. Uncomfortable conversations are hard, but avoiding every conflict is harder. Mastering your craft is hard, but having no skills is harder.

Easy has a cost.

The temptation to choose the easier option is one of life’s greatest temptations.

And, don’t get me wrong: there’s a time and place for choosing easy.

With my family all isolating this week, takeaways have been exactly the kind of easy we’ve needed!

But when it comes to things that truly matter, the easy option is rarely the best option. And like James says, it often makes things worse.

We need to play the easy card rarely and wisely!
