Generosity and kindness: The true nature of humanity

As some of you may well have picked up, we’ve been isolating as a family for the last 10 days.

Today was the first day we were allowed back out following Imogen, my youngest daughter, getting Covid.

The main thing that struck me throughout this time has been the kindness and generosity of friends, family, and neighbours.

So many people went out their way to support us.

My wife’s parents ordered us a supermarket delivery that was, essentially, made up of chocolate, wine, sweets, and beer!

My parents posted activity books for our girls.

Neighbours went out especially to get us popcorn simply so our Thursday night movie night could carry on as usual.

We had deliveries from farm shops and bakeries as people did everything they could to help.

Frankly, I was blown away.

It was a wonderful reminder that generosity and kindness are the true essence of human nature.

It’s easy to see what we see on the news and in social media and think, ’That’s normal’. It’s not. The news and social media reflect the worst of us. It’s easy to lose sight of our truer nature and that people are, at our true core, generous and kind.
