Day 488 :: What will happen to Thailand?

I tend to refer to Thailand as teflon Thailand.

Despite all of the gaffes it just keeps clicking on. But no one predicted COVID and even your most put together governments struggle to combat it.

Looks like the COVID cracks are starting to show in Thailand.

Will this be a real crash? Don’t know but I don’t see tourism bouncing back in a big way anytime soon and the longer that situation continues the worse things will get.

The worry for me is that I don’t see the government doing enough and frankly they may not even be capable of fixing things.

This could also be the first ASEAN country to really suffer given it has such a huge dependence on tourism but there are so many other issues to discuss. The tourism hit just could be one of the big dominoes that falls forcing lots of the other issues to finally come to the forefront.

I have a soft spot for Thailand and miss visiting the country and our extended family. Outside of the cities though the real story is the locals can’t get vaccinated and their economies are suffering. With no end in sight for the country getting massively vaccinated and the government seemingly doing nothing for wide scale support programs, my take is Thailand has a lot more bad news coming.

Scary.
