The Entrepreneur

My dad had his own business most of my childhood. Mom did the books and tried to keep him organized. I did not pay much attention to it all but essentially my dad was an entrepreneur.

If we step back from the Hustle Porn of tech Startups, most of the world is full of small, gritty businesses and the people running these businesses are the real entrepreneurs.

Sure - nothing wrong with doing a Startup, raising funds and going for the moon. Just keep in mind that very few make it and along the way they are underpaid, overworked and not having as much fun as one may think. Still - it is amazing when it works and I for one would never talk someone out of it, but I do try. ;)

However, these same people forget that lots of people start businesses, never raise capital, work to make cash and when done right they can generate a really good living. Along they way they may sell it, start more businesses or just run it while  figuring out how to work less without any impact on taking profits.

There is no one way but we should all be open to the many definitions of entrepreneurism and celebrate all the various forms of success.
