Why run with minimal shoes or sandals when there are cushion shoes? Depending on the goal. For me, it is about being strong and healthy as long as possible. I want to be able to run marathons when I am sixty or seventy or more.
Maybe we asked the wrong question. A better one might be "Why do we run?" Running becomes a practice to build your body. Minimal shoes or sandals provide many crucial benefits because of their constraints.
You cannot run fast with bad posture, bad technique. Btw, running technique is not easy as many think of. The feedback is immediate. Try to heat the ground with your heel on sandals? Feel it?
Train your legs as they should be. Your feet will learn to absorb the force and bounce back; there is no cushion to support. Overtime, they get stable and stronger. Your structure has to be correct (posture), otherwise, it hurts. So you are forced to learn and adjust.
Have to be patient. It will take time, months or years. But you will be there as long as it takes.
Sandals is preferred. I can use it for all activities: running, hiking, going to the beach, ... so one sandals rules them all.
