A scene in Gods of Egypt when a soul is about to send to the afterlife,
Step forward, What do you offer?
Back then in the story, Gold represents for value that one can offer.
I thought about it. Why was it the only question? They did not ask:
Who are you?
What have you done?
What will you do?
...
It seems none of them matter. When coming to a new place, what you offer, what you give matters the most; probably the only one that matters.
I took that personally for myself and to teach my kids. Preparing me and them to have something to offer. We live in society, we have workplace, we have social group. We leave one group and join another. We leave one company and join another. Be prepared to answer the question:
What do you offer?
No one is going to ask you that question directly. Neither force you to answer loudly. Yet it is there unspokenly.
