## Writing and note taking
- Craft. An underrated app for writing and outlining.
- Bear. Now some of my longer notes live elsewhere, but Bear continues to be my repository for quick notes, and I keep happily paying for this fast & wonderful app.
- Sublime Text. Especially for brief code snippets or just making ascii files.
- Ulysses.
- Overleaf for collaborative project.
## Whiteboarding
- Freeform on macOS
- https://flowchart.fun
- Obsidian canvas looks pretty good but I've used it maybe twice
## Voice notes transcription
MacWhisper. Such great value for money.
## Reading or listening to text
- Matter. The monthly subscription lets me listen to articles.
- Audible (A paying customer since 2007 here 👋)
- Zotero (storing and reading papers)
I stayed away from Zotero for a long time mostly because there didn't seem to be a good integration for tablets. But I've made the jump. (Used Papers previously for many years, and was pretty happy with it.)
## Email
I understand the appeal of a free gmail account, which I also use, but mostly handle emails with hey.com.
## AI
- I have a Claude subscription
- For quick coding queries I still talk to ChatGPT
- DeepL is great value for money
## Organizing contacts
Still haven't found an app for this.
Tried looking for a "personal CRM" online but seems hopeless.
Is there a proper solution? I have some index cards, conference programs, and notes to self scattered around the office...
## Task management
I have Things 3 installed, and it helped me a lot when I was finishing my dissertation. Rarely using it these days, the main frustration is that it doesn't have weekly tasks.
Trello, an old classic, is still fine.
Airtable was promising but became slow on my machine at some point...
## Subscription manager
I use a Google spreadsheet to keep track of all recurring payments.
## Hardware
- MacBook Air, 15-inch, M2, 16GB Memory, 2023
- An iPad Pro bought in 2021
- Garmin Fenix 7s
- Peloton Membership to keep the bike connected to classes...
