Are websites overrated?
Let's consider a local gym in your city. Most of their customers are on social media, and if the gym has an active Instagram page, the Instagram page serves the purpose of the website. The gym's instagram is updated frequently, and gives an accurate picture of what's happening at the gym. They can showcase daily happenings like workout programs, member transformations, new equipment updates, class schedules via Instagram stories and reels. Credible social proof is instantly built in with Instagram via comments and engagements, and people can reach you easily via Instagram DMs.
Maybe a website is needed more if you are a B2B SAAS, or an e-commerce store and you depend on Google for search traffic. Or if you are a business that does regular monthly events, I can see an event page being useful for your customers. On Instagram, events can get lost in all the other noise. Someone checking on Monday might miss the Wednesday workshop entirely because it is buried 10 posts down.
For businesses where their primary customers are on social media, I dont see how a website benefits the business more than an Instagram page in most cases.
