My iOS essentials 📲 [Feb 2022]

You'd be happy to know that this post has nothing to do with iOS and app updates or whatsoever - ohh the cringe faces out there! Anyway, today I just wanna share my essential/most frequently used apps of the last few months.

1. VSCO for editing photos

A free app for editing photos using predefined filters. Really nice UI and UX that are simplistic yet to the point without the faff. Big fan! You can always opt in and subscribe if you wanna edit videos and/or use a gazillion more filters (never tried the premium subscription so let me know if you did or planning to). If you fancy following me you can do so at vsco.co/fob93!

2. Instagram for keeping up with my friends and family's social activities/news

An app that doesn’t need intro at all - I think it's self-explanatory for all millennials and Gen-Zs out there what Instagram is all about.

3. Hey Email for obvious reasons

The best email service! Taking security and privacy at core for its success! And here's why! Kudos Jason Fried and DHH as well as the broader team at Hey! Fun fact: I'm publishing this post just by sending an email to world@hey.com - as I said in my first post!

4. Journal for my daily 5-minute journalling

It really helps, it really does. I found this app (which I own as a physical notebook as well) a few months ago and can't stop using it! I can’t recommend it enough. I'm a true believer that the best way we can begin our day is through gratitude - give it a go, you'll see! Both the app and the notebook ask these 5 questions (which I highly suggest to answer everyday... in just 5 minutes):

  1. I am grateful for…
  2. What would make today great?
  3. Daily affirmation. I am…
  4. 3 Amazing things that happened today…
  5. How could I have made today even better?

5. Overcast for listening to my favourite podcasts

I can’t remember the last day that went by without listening to at least 10' of an episode and Overcast has always been my podcast app of choice. I'm a big fan of the minimalistic UI and the ability to customise notifications and playlists. Also, credits where credits are due - so thanks Xosiou for recommending this app (almost 4 years, now?).

6. Strava for logging my runs in preparation for my marathon

Where do I begin? I left the most useful app for the end! I've been using Strava a looot since I first ran more than 5km almost 2 years now (thanks COVID!). I use it to log my runs and cycling rides, view my stats, records and, funnily enough (or not) to track the kms covered by my running shoes - a stat that's really important for long-distance runners which is often undervalued - and is particularly useful for my marathon prep these days! If you wanna know you should replace your running shoes every 500-600 km to avoid injuries! Plus it's always fun to see when, where and how long your friends run for. A bit of healthy competish never hurt nobody!! Also, I'm not gonna lie, those medals that appear on the right of the screen after each run give you a small sense of self-accomplishment! 🏃🏽‍♂️
